Summary: The Supervisor, Facilities and Engineering is responsible for coordinating and directly supervising the Facilities and Engineering staff; conducts specialized and complex facilities engineering work in support of operations and maintenance activities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Oversees the development of predictive, preventive, and reliability centered maintenance programs including maintenance check sheets, predictive maintenance techniques, and related engineering analyses.
  • Provides advice in regards to Facilities & Engineering matters, including compliance with federal/state laws and regulations; coordinates Facilities & Engineering project activities with other District departments and divisions.
  • Performs engineering project management work to include preparing budgets for maintenance projects, overseeing project execution, resolving complex work problems, recommending contract change orders, preparing progress reports, and reviewing invoices.
  • Oversees the maintenance and the facilities change notice procedure; manages minor capital projects, and recommends teams of trades and operators needed.
  • Recommends work equipment and maintenance standards, procedures and performance criteria for ongoing planned activities; helps define training needs for maintenance and operations personnel, such as trade skills enhancement, related to maintenance standards and procedures.
  • Participates in the interviewing and hiring of new staff; prioritizes, assigns and reviews work, approves time off for payroll purposes, and prepares employee performance evaluations.
  • Assigns projects to engineering staff; sets priorities and adjusts workload accordingly.
  • Provides technical oversight and coordination of work through project coordination meetings and other means, monitors progress against project schedules; recommends allocation of resources as required to accomplish goals.
  • Serves as liaison person with a variety of vendor’ regarding project reviews and engineering issues.
  • Communicates with the CMMS Administrator on a regular basis to ensure the department is fully stocked with the necessary tools and supplies.
  • May be required to perform other duties as assigned or as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervises 6-10 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

  • Two year college degree or trade school certificate in a related field; six to eight years




experience in operating of tableting machines, mechanical maintenance, validation and/or

calibration experience preferably in a pharmaceutical company with tableting or other related industry; or five or more years direct supervisory/management experience in pharmaceutical or other FDA regulated packaging/manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.


Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or science related discipline preferred;


OPEX (Six Sigma and/or Lean) training/certification is a plus


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to travel (local within a 10 miles radius) between two facilities on a regular basis.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours for as needed including, early mornings, late evenings, holidays and weekends.
  • Proactively supervise, communicate, present, influence, develop consensus and affect change throughout the department.
  • Strong computer skills, including advanced Excel, MS Office applications and knowledge of Inventory software.
  • Work independently and demonstrate initiative.
  • High energy, self-motivated individual who is flexible in assignment, able to multi-task between multiple active projects.
  • Ability to work under pressure and perform tasks on schedule with minimal supervision.
  • Good communication skills and ability to motivate staff.
  • Great working knowledge to troubleshoot and repair tableting, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and instrumentation equipment.
  • Discipline to consistently follow SOPs, GMPs, and safety precautions.
  • Competency to properly gown for and function within a GMP environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to follow instructions and schedules.
  • Assure compliance with cGMP’s and OSHA.
  • Proper lifting techniques is required.
