Job Purpose

Through strategic leadership of the site quality function and as a core member of the site leadership team exercise governance and management of all aspects of the Company’s Quality system(s) at the Anaheim facility to the required standards of existing approvals, regulations, specifications and customer requirements.  


Key Responsibilities

  • Manages the Company’s Quality system, policy and procedures at the Company’s Anaheim facility, ensuring all quality aspects are defined and monitored for compliance.
  • Establishes and maintains sound working relationships with Federal Aviation Administration authorities and inspectorate as well as with key customers and suppliers.
  • Ensures the facility is “audit ready” at all times through internal scrutiny and audit.  
  • Determines, negotiates and agrees on in-house quality procedures, standards and specifications, co-ordinating priorities and objectives with MRO procedures in co-operation with the Operations Manager and his/her teams to maximize process reliability and minimize costs.
  • Assesses customer requirements and establishes processes to ensure these are met.
  • Investigates (and corrects) customer issues and complaints relating to quality.
  • Specifies quality requirements of raw materials with suppliers, interacting with vendors to ensure quality of all purchased parts.
  • Ensures Quality targets and objectives are met within function and across the site operations.
  • Develops and audits intermediate and final inspection processes across the site operations to ensure the facility demonstrably and consistently meets regulatory and customer standards and specifications.
  • Develops and organizes audits suppliers and third party contractors to ensure they are compliant with Company standards and quality systems in their provision of products and services to the Company.
  • Has ultimate responsibility for interpreting customer/industry drawings, specifications, and requirements along with developing inspections systems/metrology to satisfy requirements.
  • Is the final arbiter for and provide final judgment on quality issues for the Company.
  • Is responsible for establishing effective and assured quality controls and processes across the facility including standardised work instructions and procedures, effective document control, secure data systems, validated training and competence assessment methodology, common analytical and problem solving tools, appropriate performance metrics and measurable improvements that are essential for the business to meet and sustain the required quality standards in all its activities.
  • Provides statistical and technical expertise to the team, providing business reports as required and establishing KPIs to track and improve Quality performance of the Company.
  • Formulates, documents and maintains quality control standards and on-going quality control objectives, including creating documents and implementing inspection criteria and procedures.
  • Is responsible for collecting, analyzing, interpreting and reporting inspection KPI’s/metrics.
  • Leads, manages and develops a small team of Quality Inspectors.
  • Certifies Approved Operators and authorised signatories for release documentation.
  • Actively participates in the continuous review and improvement of site-wide processes.
  • Designs, develops and implements quality control training programs.
  • Comply with all relevant Company policies and procedures.

  • Demonstrates exceptional business acumen coupled with the ability to identify opportunities for improved business performance within Operations and in the wider business context through improving Quality systems and establishing a “best in class” culture and reputation at the facility.
  • Possesses extensive knowledge, experience and understanding of the aftermarket MRO business in the US (i.e. customers, products, manufacturing and repair processes and future trends etc.)      
  • Has ability to develop and implement quality improvement plans and improved supplier performance that enable the facility to exceed customer expectations and facilitate business growth through assured delivery and quality of products and services.    Technical Capacit 
  • Has proven experience and the technical knowledge required to organize, manage and control the day-to-day quality activities in a fast moving MRO facility in the US, including Product verification; Identification of and compliance with relevant FAA regulatory requirements, Design Verification Test approval, Product Qualification Plan & Report approval, Independent Reviews within NPI process for Release to Manufacture and FAIs (1st Articles), Product inspection and test plans, Process Qualification/Verification.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with and practitioner skills in: SWOT analyses; ISO9000/AS9100C; APQP; PPAP;PFMEA;SPC;SMED;TQM; QMSs
  • Has a proven track record with deployment of Continuous Improvement projects using a structured problem solving methodology, working level competence in Lean Six Sigma would be an advantage as would project management experience.Organizational Skills
  • Able to plan and organize own work, and that of the team, setting goals and priorities, coaching for success as necessary, ensuring progress is tracked and that any off-track delivery is put back on track.
  • Understands the need for and is able to establish accessible and controlled databases and documentation within the Quality Management System that demonstrate organizational competence and facilitate the regular internal and external audit cycle across the business.
  • Confident to work largely autonomously, receiving general guidance when necessary regarding job activities, priorities and personal objectives.
  • Demonstrates personal drive, commitment & determination to achieve assigned tasks and is comfortable multi-tasking as a norm.

Specific Skills / Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Technology, Industrial Management, or equivalent experience including management/supervision and experience with applying quality processes and procedures in an aerospace manufacturing/precision machining environment.
  • Relevant Six Sigma/Continuous Improvement qualifications are desirable.
  • Experience of managing large scale, complex Quality systems in commercial and highly regulated environments is essential.
  • Experience in manufacturing and the Aerospace industry would be advantageous.
  • Sound knowledge of ISO9001/2000, AS9100, and EASA/CAA/FAA regulations preferable.
  • Strong information technology skills, especially related to metrology and other quality systems.
  • Ability to create and effectively communicate regulations/standards.
  • Ability to positively influence groups across an organization to work toward a common philosophy.
  • Ability to manage and execute on multiple, critical projects simultaneously.
  • Must possess strong leadership skills.
  • Strong ethics to escalate issues in the face of competing company priorities.
  • Utilize Lean Enterprise and other continuous improvement techniques.
  • Implement developing/documenting procedures.
  • Knowledge of testing, sampling and inspection.
  • Maintain a strong team environment.
  • The jobholder is required to be computer literate with a good understanding of a range of different IT packages and systems.
