We are seeking an Accountant for a temporary opportunity with our customer a well known Orange County based public agency, whose mission is to provide high quality water and sewer services in an efficient, cost effective, and environmentally sensitive manner which produces a high level of customer satisfaction! The Accountant will be responsible to provide financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data and preparing reports!

Accountant Job description:

  • Perform all payroll journal entries and prepare reconciliation to the general ledger after each payroll.
  • Reconcile W-2 forms and ensure the accuracy of the forms. 
  • Prepare annual State Controllers Report for payroll and other reporting for internal/external use. 
  • Provide training to employees as necessary.
  • Identify and assist with testing of payroll automation opportunities. 
  • Participate in testing and validating for any Payroll System updates.   
  • Act as a back-up for Payroll Administrator.
  • Assist with General Ledger, Cash Management, Accounts Payable and iExpense, Accounts Receivable, Project and Grant Management, Fixed Assets, Operating Budget, Year End Processing, and Financial Reporting as time permits.
  • Assist with accounting for District Not for Profit entities as time permits.
  • Perform closing processes as requested.
  • Review, analyze, and balance various general ledger accounts.  
  • Prepare audit schedules for the annual external audit as requested.
  • Prepare CAFR sections as requested. 
  • Prepare reports for various agencies as required/requested.
  • Understand and apply Chart of Accounts.
  • Ensure activities are in accordance with District policy, regulations, and guidelines.
  • Ensure proper application of established accounting processes and procedures.
  • Identify issues, find solutions, and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Formulate, establish and maintain processes and procedures to improve internal controls.  .
  • Work closely with various departments to solve issues and provide recommendations.
  • Understand and resolve issues on sub ledger(s) / general ledger interfaces and provide recommendations.
  • Comply with District safety work-related practices and attend relevant safety training.
  • Perform special projects and other assignments as requested.

The Accountant must have the following requirements:

  • 5-7 years of experience in accounting
  • Degree in Accounting or Business
  • Oracle Enterprise Business Suite R12 is Desired
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Excel
  • Experience with project costing
  • Excellent communication skills and attentive to details
  • Team player and have ability to work independently
