We are seeking a temporary GIS Technician I for a temporary opportunity with our customer a well known Orange County based public agency, whose mission is to provide high quality water and sewer services in an efficient, cost effective, and environmentally sensitive manner which produces a high level of customer satisfaction!

The GIS Technician is responsible to perform a variety of skilled duties using Geographic Information System (GIS) tools for the creation of GIS facilities, various maps, diagrams, exhibits, and supports the geographic internet and mobile solutions database. GIS Technician I Essential Job Duties:

  • Perform engineering improvement plan research for public and staff.
  • Maintain fundamental knowledge of equipment utilized by the GIS group including, but not limited to: Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment, scanner, and plotters.
  • Generate a variety of specific, high quality cartographic and thematic maps and provide spatial analysis database for requesting departments, internal meetings, or Board of Directors meetings; produces water/wastewater system atlas maps for all departments.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of ESRI based products, GIS/CAD conversion tools and functionalities, and other related conversion tools (e.g. Minor Edits Tool).
  • Ability to read and interpret civil engineering plans and specifications in order to maintain a database according to GIS Conversion standards for the collection of water, recycled, and wastewater infrastructure. Applies to: gather, verify, input, edit, maintain, and update collected field attributes, tabular, and spatial data; maintain integrity of data and performing quality assurance on data entities and attributes on Capital/Development plans; incorporate field redline submissions.
  • Utilize the GPS equipment to collect geographic information in the field; locate District assets, resolve accuracy issues using GPS and integrate GPS data in GIS database.
  • Maintain and update development/capital plans submitted through Plan Check using the Record Management system and follow the Record Retention policy.

GIS Technician I requirements:

  • A combination of education and experience equivalent to the completion of 20 college level units with emphasis in Geography and/or Geographic systems
  • Minimum of one year of experience in engineering, geographic information systems or related field. Experience gained through college internship or other work-study program qualifies for this level.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Visio and web-based GIS software packages (e.g. Map Library, Plancheck, Mapplet, Field Mapplet).
