Medical Collector

 

Collections Specialist

  •  Collect and adjust outstanding account receivables
  • Demonstrates competence in customer/patient focus and adaptability
  • Review outstanding balances over 30 working days with follow up to payer source for expected payment and release date
  • Submit appeals on short paid or denied claims to payer source when permitted by law or contractual relationships
  • Identify bad debt and contractual allowances with attached documentation supporting request for write-offs
  • Document in computer system all phone calls and correspondence with payer source
  • Calculate accurate contractual write off on open accounts, utilizing appropriate write off codes
  • Resubmit claims not received by payer source, with verification of receipt
  • Timely follow up on open balance accounts, utilizing "Reminder" system tool on previously contacted accounts
  • Resolve refund request within 30 days of request from payer source
  • Respond to patient inquiries regarding account a status within 24 hours
  • Completes compliance education and understands all applicable policies
  • Assist with cash posting functions as needed
  • Files all claim related correspondence electronically in EMR

 

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

 

  • Knowledge of medical billing systems and clearing houses with special emphasis on home health, hospice, infusion
  • Treats all information and data within the scope of the position with complete confidentiality & security
  • Understand and communicate payer contract language
  • Understands Medicare, Medi-Cal and Commercial payer requirements
  • Dependable and self-reliant
  • Excellent organization and time management skills and flexibility to handle changing priorities
  • Microsoft Word and  Microsoft Excel
  • Problem solving skills
  • Ability to communicate verbally and written inside and outside the company

Risk Management - Cooperates fully in all risk management activities and investigations

Minimum Position Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Minimum two years of cash posting, Medicare and or commercial billing and collections experience

Preferred Position Qualifications: Healthcare billing and collections experience, ideally if you have DMA or Home infusion experience this would be a HUGE plus!!

Ability to work 8-5:30, or as late as 9:30 to 6:30
