We are seeking a machine shop Receiving Inspector for a temporary to hire opportunity with an industrial manufacturer in Orange County!  The Receiving Inspector will be responsible to ensure accurate and timely inspections of products and materials through daily inspection activities. This includes raw material stock, machined parts, assemblies, metal castings, and purchased finished items used in parts assemblies for conformance to specifications. The Receiving Inspector will also verify accuracy and completeness of purchasing & engineering documentation and operate coordinate measuring equipment to measure dimensions of manufactured parts of strict tolerance by performing the following duties.

The Receiving Inspector will be responsible to:

  • Examines material or product for dimensional criteria and surface defects, such as cracks, pits and incomplete welds.
  • Reviews Purchase Order clauses and modifications.
  • Ensures receipt of documentation requirements associated with purchased product or materials.
  • Verifies completeness and correctness of Work Order/Traveler.
  • Reviews contracts, drawing and engineering orders.
  • Perform first article inspections.
  • Rejects defective parts or material, marks type of defect on part, container of parts, or inspection tag and segregates rejected product or material from production flow.
  • Generates a Non-Conformance Report as required on rejected products or material.
  • Reads blueprints to determine dimensions and tolerance specifications for selected parts
  • Operates CMM measuring equipment, to verify conformance to blueprint requirements.
  • Provides ongoing support to Quality Assurance management and inspection staff.
  • Other duties may be required at the discretion of, and in support of, the Quality Assurance Manager.

Receiving Inspector Education/Experience and Skills:

  • 8-10 years of machined or cast materials inspection experience
  • Ability to read and analyze blue prints
  • Proven experience using CMM & basic inspection tools (i.e.: calipers, scales, height gauges, micrometers)
  • Knowledge of geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T)
  • LEAN/KAIZEN manufacturing experience desired
  • Proficient in shop mathematics
  • Knowledge of ISO based quality systems and processes.
  • Able to work independently with minimal oversight
  • Capable of providing guidance and direction to other staff members
  • Experience processing materials movements, within an ERP system.
  • Must be a self-starter, capable of educating his or herself on the various control systems/processes, and of carrying out tasks with minimal supervision.
