Summary: 

The Packaging Supervisor is responsible for providing direction, ensuring safety and quality, and supporting all operators in the department. In this position you must lead and execute assigned plant initiatives and continuous improvement projects. Must schedule and supervise equipment and personnel to maximize production and reduce cost. Strict compliance with the facility Food Safety and Quality Management System Policies, Procedure and Work Instructions, and all Cal/OSHA regulations is required.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare and acquire packaging batch records ahead of time to ensure all necessary materials needed are available. Check if any partial materials are available

• Coordinate with warehouse as to the staging of components required in a batch prior to run out on the line

• Ensure that all necessary tags, signs (partial pallets, OK to use, awaiting missing ingredients, etc.) are properly attached to the accompanying batch

• Weighing check, ensure correct lot numbers of raw materials are being utilized and expiration dates confirmed

• Coordinate with Quality Control as to materials that need immediate approval to prevent production downtimes

• Troubleshoot any equipment/machinery malfunction in a timely manner

• Create, record and perform preventative maintenance schedule on equipment/machinery and contact outside contractor if necessary to repair machines

• Ensure quick response to production operators when needing assistance to prevent loss of production time

• Ensure that all in-process checks are being completed, conduct appropriate supervisor checks, meet daily targets, and equip personnel to achieve their full potential

• Coordinate with management when there is a need for temporary employees

• Work with Quality Assurance and reinforce cGMP basic training to all employees

• Ensure that all staff is complying with safety regulations at all times and that Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) are strictly followed

• Ensure that all production documentation is accurate and complete on the batch records and all yields are checked and supporting documentation is attached to the batch records (deviation, reprocessing, and change control)

• Ensure that all necessary log books are completed and all scales/balances checks are performed daily

  • Follow-up on production operators taking samples for Quality Control testing to ensure they are logged in appropriate log books for QA and provided in a timely manner
  •  Represent packaging department in management meetings
  • Responsible for start-up and shutdown processes on a daily basis 
  • Ensure that all packaging rooms are clean, lights are off at the end of the day 
  • Work closely with Production Supervisor to maintain and improve product flow
  • Track and report status of in-process and completed packaging orders
  • Ensure timecards are filled out appropriately
  • Other duties assigned by Management

Education/Experience:

  • 2-3 years’ production supervisory/team facilitation experience in a food manufacturing facility
  • Dietary Supplement / Food manufacturing experience
  • Prior experience in the consumer products industry or food with familiarity with quality and hygiene regulation desired
  • Prepare and send emails
  • Track performance using database software
  • Report progress using ERP system
